3 Reasons Why Metatrader On Mac Is Better (And How To Get Started)

I recently switched to a Mac, and it is the best computer I have ever owned. Of course nothing is perfect, but things just work better on a Mac. The only problem is that Forex trading software is not usually very Mac friendly.

You cannot directly install programs like Metatrader 4, Metatrader 5, Forex Tester 2 and other proprietary trading platforms. I guess they are a little behind the times.

So what do you do? Fortunately there is a great solution.

There are programs out there like VMWare Fusion (the one I use) and Parallels that allow you to install Windows as a program on the Mac. It just runs like another program in OS X and I even think that it runs better on a Mac.

Without further delay, here are the top 3 reasons that I think Metatrader on Mac is the way to go for your forex trading:

OS X is a more solid operating system. Things just work and you do not have to worry about programs crashing as much.Viruses are not an issue on a Mac. There are some Mac viruses out there, but your Mac is otherwise very safe. Why would the hackers go after Macs when PCs are such easy pickings? With your copy of Windows running on VMWare Fusion, it is much easier to backup your trading settings and restore them later if you change computers or something does go wrong.

How to get started

Setting this all up does cost some money, but because of the reasons listed above, it is totally worth it. In order to run Metatrader on Mac, you need two things.

First, you need a copy of Windows that you can install in VMWare. This can be kind of expensive, with new copies running about $300, at the time this article was written. In order to save some money, you could try using old disks that you may have received from one of your old computers, or you could try to find a used copy.

You could go with Windows XP, Vista or 7. I use Windows XP because I think it is more solid than the newer operating systems. If you must have the most up to date thing, get Windows 7. Otherwise, stay away from Windows Vista at all costs.

Next, you need a copy of VMWare Fusion. It costs about $65 at a Mac Store or on Amazon. This is the program that makes the magic happen. You install it on your Mac first, then within VMWare, you install your copy of Windows.

It's as easy as that! Once you have Windows running and updated, download a free copy of Metatrader 4 and get trading!

I hope this has helped!
